The energy at House of Blues, Hollywood on the night of the sold-out 5 Seconds of Summer show was much more ecstatic than the past 5 SOS concerts.
This is a venue that the members of 5 SOS, Luke Hemmings, Ashton Irwin, Calum Hood and Michael Clifford, only dreamed about playing, yet alone headlining it.
The sweltering heat in Los Angeles that week didn’t deter dedicated super fans as they stood in line. The majority of the crowds were decked out in homemade 5 SOS attire. A handful of fanatics camped out at least a day before the show.
Even though 5 SOS is currently opening for One Direction’s Where We Are Tour, the concert was well worth the opportunity to play an intimate show for their fans and for themselves.
The eager crowd of 1,500 fans, family and friends welcomed them with open arms and expressive screams.
They started their set with the song from the album “18,” which is on their debut self-titled album. Not only did they play songs off their most recent album but they played a few songs off their EP “Somewhere New” and performed a pair of cover songs: Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” and Green Day’s “American Idiot.”
Throughout the show Ashton Irwin, drummer of the band, kept reminding the fans that they wouldn’t be where they are without each and every one of them.
After the 15 song set, the lights on stage went out and the packed venue was chanting for more. The energy of the concert-goers was just as electric as it was when they played the first chord of their opening song.
The 4 piece band came out after a minute of standing backstage, listening to the pulsating chant of their fans calling for an encore.
After wrapping up the One Direction tour, they have their own headlining tour in 2015 called the “Rock Out With Your Socks Out” tour which is sure to be an equally passionate performance by these young lads.
